This is a DreamWorks Animation movie with voice overs featuring Nicolas Cage (Grug), Emma Stone (Eep), Ryan Reynolds (Guy) and Katherine Keener (Ugga) among others.

The Croods opened in first place, to an impressive $44.7, which surpasses recent DreamWorks films “How to Train your Dragon” and “Rise of the Guardians”.

In second place “Olympus has Fallen” brought in $30.5, which exceeded expectations.

Olympus has Fallen is an action movie which tells of an attack on the White House (code name Olympus) and the President of the United States being taken hostage by terrorists.

It features two well liked actors in Morgan Freeman (Speaker Trumbull) who always brings in big audiences and Gerard Butler (Mike Banning), a fan favorite who is really bad ass in his role as a former Secret Service agent. This is how fans prefer to see the Scot. It also stars Ashley Judd as the President’s wife.

Butler has had a number of romantic comedies in recent years, the latest one was “Playing for Keeps” in which he stars opposite Jessica Biel.

In Olympus has Fallen, he plays a disgraced former Secret Service agent who happens to be in the White House when the attack occurs and is the one person who knows the ins and outs to retake the building from the attackers. It’s nice to see him play the tough guy again, and he does it very well!

The score was created by famed Canadian composer Trevor Morris, who has done music for many popular TV shows such as “The Tudors”, “The Borgias” and “The Pillars of the Earth”.

“Oz the Great and Powerful” fell to third place this weekend with approximately $22 million. The movie has earned $177.6 so far.

Will “The Croods” and “Olympus has Fallen” stay on top of the box office after next weekend?
