We all know the classic children’s story of siblings, Hansel and Gretel. Their widowed father has re-married and is struggling to make ends meet before the new evil wife convinces him of abandoning the children in the woods to fend for themselves. They set out and the kids are left alone. After the shock wears off the kids wander in search for food and come across a very enticing gingerbread house, but within lives the evil witch who lures them with attractive goodies.

Most of us had the story read to us by our parents while growing up, and for some of us it was one of our favorite fairy tales. Now, Hansel and Gretel are all grown up and in this new 3D production from director Tommy Wirkola (Dead Snow) the two siblings transformed into bounty hunters who track and kill witches all over the world. As the fabled Blood Moon approaches, the siblings encounter a new form of evil that might hold a secret to their past.
The film stars Jeremy Renner (The Avengers) and Gemma Arterton (Tamara Drewe) as the main characters and has faced some changes in its release date, due to the discovery that illegal copies of it had been made. This forced the studio to move the original release date from January 11, to January 25.
The reviews have not been positive so far and the film was not screened prior to release. Different outlets, such as Entertainment Weekly and the Los Angeles Times predict the movie will be a hit at the box office, however, and they expect it to bring in anywhere form $17 million and $30 million. Hansel and Gretel has done well in Russia so far, with $8.6 million.
