Paramount has released a new trailer for their upcoming sequel Transformers Dark of the Moon. It made its debut on Apple’s iTunes Movie Trailers and it features a slew of new footage. Much like the X-Men First Class trailer that debuted yesterday, Dark of the Moon also ties into historical events that took place in the 1960s. This time, it focuses on the space race to the moon, hence the subtitle of the film.

The movie is scheduled to hit theaters on July 1, 2011 and once again stars Shia LaBeouf, Tyrese Gibson, John Turturro, and Josh Duhamel. Do you think the third film will be better or worse than the second? There’s only one way to find out.

In Transformers Dark of the Moon, LaBeouf’s character Sam Witwicky is once again thrown in the middle of a conflict between the Autobots, Decepticons, and humans. The problems may be similar but some of the people are different. Sam’s no longer the awkward kid we met in the 2007 original. He’s a young adult, with a real job, and a new girlfriend. Megan Fox’s Mikaela character has been replaced by Victoria’s Secret model Rose Huntington-Whitely. How does Sam continue to get these types of women? We’ll never know.

Dark of the Moon features a lot of new faces including Dr. McDreamy himself Patrick Dempsey, John Malkovich, Frances McDormand, Ken Jeong, as well as the voice talent of Leonard Nimoy. Like most of Michael Bay’s films, there will be a lot of explosions and an overwhelming amount of action.

In the new trailer, it’s hard to see what’s going on with all the characters. It appears that the Decepticons have gotten the upper hand on the humans and are taking over earth. But we all know that Optimus Prime and his forefather Sentinel Prime won’t let that happen. Will they?
