Twentieth Century Fox has released a new trailer for their upcoming action flick X-Men First Class. The film is an adaptation of the popular Marvel comic book of the same name. First Class is directed by Matthew Vaughn and stars James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender. The new trailer debuted on Yahoo Movies, and has made quite an impression in a short period of time.
The new trailer shows lots of new footage, and features a few historical figures including President John F. Kennedy.
X-Men First Class takes place in the early 1960s during the Cuban missile crisis, and the brewing Civil Rights movement. The plot centers on a young Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr before they became enemies. This was before Xavier was the esteemed leader of the X-Men and before Lensherr became Magneto. During their youth, the two men co-founded a school specializing in helping children hone their mutant powers.
The first class of students at the institute include Henry “Beast” McCoy, Raven “Mystique” Darkholme, Sean “Banshee” Cassidy, Alexander “Havok” Summers, Angel Salvadore, and Armando “Darwin” Munoz. This lineup is slightly different than the one given in the comics which consists of Scott “Cyclops” Summers, Jean “Marvel Girl” Grey, Warren Worthington III aka Angel, Robert “Ice Man” Drake, and Henry McCoy.
It’s easy to get upset over the amount of changes that have been made, so we’re just trying to take it for what it is. We’re not necessarily interested in the class itself, as much as its leaders. Xavier and Magneto are the biggest draw for the film. There’s also a great interest in the villain Sebastian Shaw, who’s played by Kevin Bacon. Unfortunately, he’s not really highlighted in the new trailer. The X-Men get all the shine this time around.
What do you think of the new trailer for X-Men First Class? Are you excited about the film?
