Legendary director Quentin Tarantino has returned with a big hit, ‘Django Unchained’. With an impressive cast the movie is sure to be an Oscar nominee contender. Tarantino writes and directs the movie which stars Leonardo DiCaprio (‘Titanic’), Jamie Foxx (‘Rio’), Christoph Waltz (‘Inglourious Basterds’), Samuel L. Jackson (‘The Avengers’) and Kerry Washington (‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith’).

Django Unchained is a western set in the Old West and follows ‘Django Freeman’ (Foxx), a freed slave who travels across the country with a bounty hunter, ‘Dr. King Schultz’ (Waltz) in search of his wife ‘Broomhilda von Shaft’ (Washington) who is kept by a cruel plantation owner, ‘Calvin J. Candie’ (DiCaprio).

The movie was released this past December 25, 2012 to excellent reviews from critics and the public alike. It has also received five Golden Globes nominations, including Best Director and Best Screenplay, both for Tarantino, as well as a nomination for Best Theatrical Motion Picture from the Producers Guild of America.

There has also been some controversy associated with the heavy use of the ‘N’ word, which some have defended, stating that in the context of the time period, the derogatory word is used accurately. This has offended many in the African American community such as, director Spike Lee, who has declined to watch the movie.

The premiere of Django Unchained had to be cancelled due to the Sandy Hook Elementary school shooting in Connecticut on December 14th, out of respect for the victims. The movie is set to open in the UK on January 18th.

This marks the fifth collaboration between Quentin Tarantino and Samuel L. Jackson. Some of the most notable films they both worked on are, Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill: Vol. 2 and Jackie Brown.
