Eddie Redmayne is a 30 year old English actor, singer and model. You may have never heard of him in your life, but you should get used to that name. The red head is creating waves in his new role of ‘Marius’ in the Golden Globe nominated adaptation ‘Les Misérables’.
Eddie was raised in London and is one of five children and the only one in his family to pursue an acting career after his parents encouraged him to do so. He attended drama school from a young age and his first role was in Oliver! in London’s West End, directed by Sam Mendes (‘Skyfall’).
He continued with his drama education during school and University and attended Cambridge with fellow Brit Dan Stevens (‘Downton Abbey’). His first professional stage appearance came in 2002 at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre where he played Viola in Twelfth Night.
I first became acquainted with Eddie while watching the 2010 miniseries adaptation of Ken Follett’s novel ‘The Pillars of The Earth’ in which he played the misunderstood outsider Jack. Later he played ‘Colin Clark’in ‘My Week With Marilyn’ for which he received a nomination for BAFTA Rising Star Award.
In his young career he has already received recognition for his outstanding work, cementing the road for a promising career, which is not an unusual happening with the British. They seem to have an interminable list of young, talented actors just waiting to make a break in the international market. Eddie has already left his mark and we should see him very often in years to come.
