This is the year of ‘Man of Steel’. Seems like we’ve been waiting for this movie to come out for an eternity. But I suppose that happens with every highly anticipated film. In this context we are expecting more and more stills, official and not official to start showing up online.

The USA Today has published a new still of Henry Cavill as ‘Superman’. Thank you! In it he is surrounded be military helicopters and doesn’t look very happy, but he is wearing his iconic, redesigned suit. Take a look.

Henry Cavill as ‘Superman’

I must say that the more photos I see, the more I am convinced that Henry Cavill was a phenomenal choice for the role. He reminds me of Christopher Reeve, not in looks, but Reeve to me was the embodiment of the man of steel, that might be changing this year.

I hope this movie will be the launching pad for Henry Cavill’s very promising career. He is British, which didn’t sit well with Superman fans, who I suppose are used to seeing Americans play the role and see the character as American, since he is rescued and brought up by a couple of farmers in the American Midwest.

Cavill has stated that Superman is from Krypton, raised by Americans, hence it can be played by a British actor or one from any other nationality. I think this poses a challenge to him and he wants to prove to us that he can portray Superman how it’s intended to be. I for one, have no doubt.

Cavill is best known for his role in the long running period drama ‘The Tudors’. He’s had other less known films and last year appeared alongside Bruce Willis and Sigourney Weaver in ‘The Cold Light of Day’, which was received with lukewarm reviews.

Man of Steel is directed by Zack Snyder (‘300′) and opens in the US this coming June 14. Also starring Amy Adams, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane and Russell Crowe.
