Paul Rudd is back and he’s headlining a new comedy called Our Idiot Brother. Yes, it may sound discouraging but it’s a recipe for comedic gold. The film made its debut on the festival circuit earlier this year, and it’s finally gearing up for the masses. Our Idiot Brother is directed by Jesse Peretz and is scheduled to open in theaters on August 26.

One of the best things about this film is its ensemble cast. You’ll see a little bit of everyone pop up in supporting roles including Rashida Jones, who played Rudd’s love interest in the 2008 comedy, I Love You Man.

The plot for Our Idiot Brother is pretty self-explanatory when you think of the title. The film centers on Ned (Rudd), the black sheep of a family and follows him as he impedes on the lives of his three sisters who are played by Emily Mortimer, Elizabeth Banks, and Zooey Deschanel. By trade, Ned is an organic farmer (take that how you like), whose girlfriend breaks up with him and kicks him off their farm. With nowhere to go he moves in with his oldest sister (Mortimer) and her husband (British comedian Steve Coogan).

Hilarity ensues when Ned’s lack of boundaries and common sense have a negative effect on everyone around him. From the looks of the trailer, he tries to help out the family but everything he does backfires and ends up causing them more strife. The film was produced by the same folks who brought us Little Miss Sunshine, who are once again capitalizing on the premise of a strained family dynamic.

With so many talented actors in the movie, it has a good chance of being just as successful as Sunshine. We can’t wait to see it! What do you think of the trailer for Our Idiot Brother? Are you interested in seeing the film?
