It’s that time again, to summarize last year or look forward to the next. I choose to look ahead. 2013 promises to be an amazing year, personally, because the actors that I dutifully follow are all involved in either television or big screen projects coming next year.

I will start then. Here is my list of movies that I look forward to watching in 2013 in no particular order.

Director Zack Snyder (‘300′) is revamping my favorite superhero (honestly). Everything in this movie looks more ‘modern’. From the style of the spandex suit to the demeanor of Superman himself. We all know how the story goes, I believe. The little boy from the planet Krypton that ends up on Earth and is adopted by a farmer and his wife. Later he realizes he is not like the rest of us, he has extraterrestrial powers that defy the imagination. Snyder picked, very well I might add, British actor Henry Cavill (‘The Tudors’) to play the legendary superhero. There was great controversy, since this is the first time a non-American actor was chosen. But all those issues has been set aside, for now, the trailers that have been released are promising. This could be the launching of Henry Cavill’s international career. ‘Man of Steel’ also starring, Amy Adams, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane and Russell Crowe opens on June 14, 2013.

Having recently been fortunate to see the first installment of director Peter Jackson’s trilogy, ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ and considering the great success that it has been met with, I am massively excited for the next installment. ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’. In only a couple of weeks the current installment has broken records and made millions world wide, but most importantly it has been received very positively by the fans who have been waiting since the last showing of the sequel to the The Hobbit, the also very successful trilogy by Jackson, ‘The Lord of The Rings’. If Unexpected Journey was successful, I would venture to say that The Desolation of Smaug will be even more so. I’m especially excited to see Luke Evans playing Bard the Bowman, one of the new characters to be revealed in this new episode. The Desolation of Smaug opens on December 13, 2013 in the US.

‘The Fast and The Furious’ is a multimillion dollar franchise that has recently finished filming it’s sixth installment in Europe. The main characters are played by Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Dwayne Johnson (‘The Rock’). As the title suggests it’s all about fast car chases and ripped bodies. I have to admit, I have not followed the first five series of movies, but this one stars one of my favorite actors in the world, Luke Evans, so it is a must. And he will be playing the baddie, which means he will probably get beaten up by the powerful trio. Very much looking forward to seeing this and Luke in a completely different role for him. I have no doubt he will be as good as always. An opening date of May 24, 2013 has been set for Fast and Furious 6 and the promise of a trailer to coincide with the Superbowl is also in the works. Luke Evans is one star who will shine brightly in 2013 and beyond, keep an eye out for him!

From director Ryuhei Kitamura (‘The Midnight Meat Train’) comes this horror thriller in which a gang of ruthless highway criminals kidnaps a couple traveling cross country only to have the tables turned on them. ‘No One Lives’ premiered earlier in 2012 during the Toronto International Film Festival, to mixed reviews. As usual the negative reviews came from movie critics. Luke Evans also stars in this movie and he plays the psychopath Driver, another bad guy. The film also stars the very talented actor/director Derek Magyar. I am very excited to see this movie even though this is not my favorite genre, but I like to see my favorite actors playing challenging characters. Derek told me in a recent interview I did with him, that filming horror movies is challenging because of all the blood and gore involved. There is no set release date for the US yet, some international dates have been announced, but that seems inaccurate also, since we have not even seen a thriller as of yet.

‘Phantom’ is a thriller from director Todd Robinson (‘Amy Cook’) that tells the story of a the captain of a Soviet submarine that holds the fate of the world in his hands. He is assigned to lead a mysterious mission which forces him to leave his family. Starring Ed Harris, David Duchovney, Sean Patrick Flanery and Derek Magyar, among others. Even with the stellar cast, I will be interested to see Derek Magyar in action again, he has not disappointed me in anything I’ve seen him in. This one sounds like my kind of movie. Always liked a good thriller, with the Soviets involved. ‘Phantom’ is set to come to theaters on March 1, 2013.

So that’s it so far, I will tell you which TV shows I’m excited to see in the coming year in my next post.

Best wishes to all for a Happy and Prosperous New Year!
