Inception stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard have been loosely attached to Christopher Nolan’s latest Batman film The Dark Knight Rises for months. Today, news spread across the internet that the actors have officially been confirmed as members of the cast. Not only are they finally on board with the film but Warner Bros also revealed what characters they’ll play.

Prior to the announcement, Gordon-Levitt was rumored to star as Alberto Falcone, while Cotillard was rumored as Talia Al-Ghul. It turns out that such speculation was false, and the duo will play two completely different roles!

The casting of The Dark Knight Rises currently stands at Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Michael Caine as Alfred Pennyworth, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Tom Hardy as Bane, and Gary Oldman as Jim Gordon. Cotillard has joined the film as Miranda Tate, “a Wayne Industries board member eager to help a still-grieving Bruce Wayne [played by Christian Bale] resume his father’s philanthropic endeavors for Gotham.”

Gordon-Levitt has been cast as John Blake, “a Gotham City beat cop assigned to special duty under the command of Commissioner Gordon [played by Gary Oldman].” That’s pretty much the only information that’s been divulged regarding these two characters. They don’t appear in the comic books from which the film is based, so it’s fair to say that Nolan’s going original.

There are some diehard fans out there who think Miranda and John are aliases for Talia and Alberto. To be honest, we’re not sure. We think Nolan is making a great decision by keeping the number of villains down to two. The movie would become too bloated with four. It’s like we’d have another Spider-Man 3 and Batman & Robin on our hands. Who wants that?! What do you think of the latest additions to The Dark Knight Rises cast?
