Meet Gigi Chao, her father is billionaire Cecil Chao and he has offered a $65 million payout to any man who can sweep her off her feet and marry her. The problem? She is already married to her lover, Sean Eav.
It sounds simple enough, right? There should be tons of applicants – Gigi is beautiful, smart, talented and very giving. So what is the catch? She is a lesbian ans is already rumored to be married to Sean Eav!
In fact that is what supposedly sparked this sudden quest. Gigi is rumored to have married her long time girlfriend in France. Her father, however, is refusing to accept it and has now put this ridiculous offer on the table. And I say ridiculous because this man would rather see his daughter with some man, who is clearly money hungry and not with her for the right reasons, than with someone who makes her happy – but just isn’t the sex he wishes. Though he says that is what he wants for her, his actions speak otherwise.
“I don’t mind whether he is rich or poor – the important thing is that he is generous and kind hearted,’ he said of the ideal husband for his daughter.
‘Gigi is a very good woman with both talents and looks. She is devoted to her parents, is generous and does volunteer work,’ he told the South China Morning Post.
Now, Cecil has a reputation himself, having claimed to have slept with 10,000 women. That is just nasty. Offering a $65 million “marriage bounty” is just ludicrous and so outdated. And others seem to think so as well. one commenter said,
“If he thinks he has failed as a father because she is gay, he’s wrong. He has failed as a father for not accepting her for who she is.”
“He needs to be told that money can’t buy you everything. What a horribly controlling father.”
Since the news hit of the dowry offer, Gigi has had over 200 marriage proposals and numerous Twitter followers and Facebook friend requests. She spoke about her fathers offer and did not confirm or deny whether she is married or not.
“He [her father] has an interesting interpretation of me. I’m not afraid to admit anything. But I do want to respect my parents. Sometimes people just refuse to accept what they are told. Let time be the witness…People are contacting me on Facebook, by email, on Twitter. It’s ridiculous. I can’t sort out the serious proposals from the half-hearted ones. I can’t make head or tail of it…At first I was entertained by it,” she added, “and then that entertainment turned into the realization and conviction that I am a really lucky girl to have such a loving daddy, because it’s really sweet of him to do something like this as an expression of his fatherly love.”
Well, I don’t think anything will come of this, and I find t to be pathetic, but I am glad she can look at it in a “glass half full” kind of way.
What do you think about Gigi Chao, Sean Eav, and Cecil Chao offering his daughters heart for $65 million?
