The Gangnam Style Lifeguard video has gone viral, but now the real story is about how all thirteen of the people in the video have lost their jobs!
This is an outrage. I can’t believe how up tight their bosses are. There are headlines splashes all over the internet today about a group of lifeguards who decided to make their own spoof of the hilarious Korean raper’s music video and dance moves.
They pull it off in dramatic fashion, with choreographed swimming and some pretty good dancing.
The lifeguards work at an El Monte, California pool, which is where they shot their rendition of the video. One of the guys got the boot claims that it was all done while they were off the clock.
Regardless, once their bosses saw the video, they were called in a fired. Doesn’t anyone have a sense of humor anymore?
This makes me think that there needs to be some kind of lifeguards union. On the Gulf Coast of Florida where I live there haven’t been lifeguards in years, and I can see why. They are always under some kind of scrutiny. The most recent story was about a kid who actually saved someone’s life, but was outside of their “zone.” Guess what? They got fired, too.
Anyway, as for these lifeguards, they are totally shocked.
One of them said:
“I thought maybe a write up or a suspension, not that I would be asked to leave…”
“We never thought there would be negative repercussions to it…”
In fact, one of the guys said he didn’t even know what was going on when they filmed him. That’s kind of hard to believe.
As for the owners of the pool, they said spewed some legal, contractual mumbo-jumbo when asked about it:
“… each of the employees dismissed … were each required to acknowledge and sign an Acknowledgement that states that they would ‘under no circumstances use any city property for his/her own private use or benefit. Such unauthorized use shall be cause for disciplinary action.”
Man. How about giving them a little break on this one and even using the video to help promote the pool. Just an idea. Go ahead and watch the Gangnam Style Lifeguard video below. Your thoughts?
