Vice President hopeful Paul Ryan’s college sweetheart Deneeta Pope is speaking about him and how their interracial relationship, she is black, opened his eyes to racism. Their past history together has put her in the spotlight years after the two called it quits.
In an interview with Daily Mail Deneeta, a former college cheerleader, talks about her relationship with Paul as well as just what kind of person he really is. It may have been over 20 years since the two dated at the University of Miami Ohio but Pope has nothing but good things to say about the Ryan. The former lovebirds met through mutual friends and the relationship was not that serious, even though they dated for years. However they were clearly important to each other because as she points out they are still friends, than again according to Pope Paul is still remains with almost all of his college pals. She says that is a testament to what kind of guy he is.
So what do we know about the woman who actually helped mold the career of Ryan? Oh yes that is right it was because of the negative reaction he received while dating Deneeta that were a formative experience in his political evolution. He became a huge advocate of civil rights because of the discrimination he and she faced while dating, In fact she donated money to his campaign back in 1997 when he was running for Congress and even though she isn’t a Republican she is still a big supporter of her ex’s career. I wonder come November who she will be more supportive of Obama or Ryan, just a thought?
Back to what we know about Deneeta, she lives in Chicago and recently got married for the second time. Paul and his wife Janna actually attended the wedding, which again goes to show just how close the former couple remains. She is a Midwestern girl, Westerville, Ohio to be exact. Pope is a fitness fanatic and has been since she was a young child. Along with cheerleading in college she would do grueling workouts to keep in shape and stay healthy. She has even been featured in a fitness video for The Wall Street Journal, which you can see below. Besides her love of fitness the newlywed also has a love of real estate and is a realtor in Chicago. As I mentioned above Pope recently got married for the second time to IT specialist Michael Thompson. Her first marriage lasted four years.
Although she is making headlines these days it does not appear that Deneeta Pope is looking to stay in the spotlight. In all honesty I don’t really see why it is such a big deal the Ryan had a black girlfriend but then again I not a super conservative closed minded person either, so maybe that is why it is no big deal to me. However I am sure all those right-winged people out there will be up in arms about it, so stupid if you ask me. Here is what I want to you to tell me do you think the news of the relationship between Deneeta and Paul will hurt his and Mitt Romeny’s chances of being elected, or help them or have no affect at all?
