Screen Gems has finally released a new trailer for their upcoming summer blockbuster Priest. Don’t let the title fool you, these aren’t your forgiving, hail Mary, men of the cloth. They kick serious butt! British actor Paul Bettany headlines the flick, which has him re-teaming with his Legion director Scott Stewart.

The film co-stars a who’s who of cult actors including Stephen Moyer (True Blood), Maggie Q (Nikita), Karl Urban (Star Trek), Cam Gigandet (Twilight), Lily Collins (The Blind Side), and Christopher Plummer (The Last Station).

Priest is a live action adaptation of the popular Tokyo Pop comic of the same name. The plot centers on a group of priests whose sole purpose is to rid the world of demons and vampires. Yes, vampires are in this movie but the good news is neither Moyer or Gigandet play them, which is interesting considering that’s what they’re most known for (Moyer plays Bill on HBO’s True Blood, and Gigandet played James in Twilight). Check out six new photos from Priest here.

Bettany and Q star as two members of this elusive group of peacekeepers who are sent to take out a new vampire called Black Hat. Black Hat is a vampire/human hybrid, who’s also a Satanic priest. He’s responsible for the kidnapping of Bettany’s niece (Collins) and countless deaths. The new trailer really amps up the action and makes you wonder how far the men and women of the cloth are willing to go to protect the innocent. We’ve never seen a priest shank someone before. You can read an interview with Urban discussing the film from last year’s San Diego Comic Con here.

Priest is scheduled to hit theaters on May 13, 2011. Are you interested in seeing the film? Do you think it has the potential to be a major hit?
