Jane Champion isn’t making headlines for winning an Olympic Gold medal. Nope the teenager is in the news for following her heart and being punished for it by her parents who are bigots. I am not talking about taking the phone or car away either, I am talking physical punishment.
Today David and Frances Champion are behind bars for being racist pigs that put their own stereotypes above their daughter’s well being. 17-year old Jane dared to have a black boyfriend and she paid the price dearly for what her parents called “bringing shame on the family.” Jane and her boyfriend Aflonce Ncube both suffered physical and verbal attacks at the hands of her parents all because he is black.
According to the Daily Mail the first attack occurred when David and Frances returned home to find their daughter and Aflonce in a state without all their clothes on. I don’t exactly know what they means but they were not totally naked I assume. Mr. Champion shouted some racial slurs as he grabbed Ncube and kicked him as he was shoving him out the door. David then went after his daughter grabbing her by the hair and hitting her.
Thankfully after that awful incident Jane retreated to her grandmothers and continued to date Aflonce. Although once her parents calmed down she returned home, which turned out not to be a wise choice. About a month after the above incident the Champions cornered their daughter at a pub and asked if she was still involved with Ncube. She said that she was and that is when her father punched her in the face, as well as grabbed her throat as he hit her multiple times.
I am seriously disgusted by this story. Thankfully both David and Frances are locked up for about a year, here is hoping someone kicks their racists butts in prison. Who does that to their child, it is not the 1960’s anymore. Hats off to Jane for sticking up to her parents and standing by her own morals and values for a guy she clearly cares about. With bigoted parents like hers it is amazing she can be so opened minded. You go Jane!
