What should a woman do in her situation? Picture Mary Willard today, whose husband was just caught (allegedly) pleasuring himself in an adult movie theater in California. She is Fred Willard’s wife and boy does he have a lot of explaining to do to his family, both her and daughter Hope Willard, although so do the police in my humble opinion.

Most men just suck it up and do it with their wives or girlfriends while closing their eyes. With lids firmly shut they picture the girl next door, Lindsay Lohan, or whatever young cutie who was in that R-rated movie on the cable channels. In the old days they just did it in the pitch black, a master plan that was ruined when women invented night lights.
Everyone knows, however, that a few men are truly incapable of creative imaginations. Those are the guys who rent X-rated movies (c’mon honey, it will be fun to watch!) or in the extreme actually visit those decrepit porno movie theaters. Ick. We all know what goes on there which is why Netflix was invented so we can avoid them.
So all of the customers of dirty movie houses know what is going on in those theaters and so do the police. Surely nobody complains about it, so why the men in blue would be wasting their time staking out such a place seems to be a mysterious wasted of taxpayer’s money. Go arrest reckless drivers like Justin Bieber rather than harassing the customers of legitimate business establishments doing what is expected of them. And the sad fallout from this professionally is that Fred has reportedly already been fired from his PBS show, “Market Warriors.” That didn’t take long.
Now Mary Willard gets screwed by having to endure the embarrassment and shame of her husband’s actions, something that would have been well enough left alone by all parties. And she is a substantial woman, not a celebrity-chasing tramp like so many of the celebrity’s wives these days. Hopefully she has a sense of humor about the huge waste of time involved by law enforcement, although it probably a given she just learned something about her husband. The couple have run a weekly comedy workshop for over 15 years, suffice to say the next one will be awkward.
Mrs. Willard is 65 years old (he is 72) and has a substantial biography. Mary is an author of plays, one of which you can see described here. In fact they met in the 1960s almost literally on stage before many of the readers of this article were born. He was a stage actor at the time and was just beginning to make inroads into television with his first appearance on the Tonight Show in 1969. She has been writing her entire life, including a recent project called Deathtroupe described here which stars none other than her husband.
The couple were eventually married in 1972, a marriage that has lasted 41 years and counting. That is an eternity (and a half) by Hollywood standards. Undoubtedly their marriage has endured a few trials and tribulations along the way, so we hope that Mary is the forgiving sort. Most husbands have done far worse, after all.
That is, assuming he is guilty at all. We’ll have to wait for the lawyers and court to sort out the mess. By the way, the couple have one beautiful daughter named Hope Willard, who was born in 1972 and is now 41 years old. She is their only child and the mother of their only grandson. Dad how could you!
