Hugh Jackman has spent this year and a good chunk of 2010 getting in shape for his X-Men prequel The Wolverine but unfortunately the movie hit a snag when the director (Darren Aronofsky) dropped out. All that hard work with the insane diet and the crazy workouts seemed to have gone to waste. But don’t fret, Universal Pictures wants the Australian actor to put his pecks and arms to use in their film, Snow White and The Huntsman.
As you may know there are two major Snow White films being developed simultaneously. Universal’s version stars Kristen Stewart (Twilight) as Snow White and Charlize Theron as the Evil Queen. Multiple sources are reporting that the studio has offered Jackman the other title role — the Huntsman.
This is the first time that Jackman’s name has been mentioned as a casting contender. Everyone knew that he was dedicated to The Wolverine and had no free time. Oscar nominee Viggo Mortensen was the initial frontrunner to play the Huntsman but he passed on the role. A sudden rewrite changed his perception of the story and he decided not to continue on.
As for Jackman, we think that he’d be perfect for this part. He oozes masculinity and he’s already in tip top shape. There’s no reason why he couldn’t believably play this character. Plus, the studio needs a big name to bring in the big bucks. Theron isn’t exactly box office gold (Aeon Flux) and Stewart has yet to headline a hit that’s not Twilight related. Universal has had a rough couple years at the box office and they need some blockbusters.
Even though Universal has offered Jackman the role, there’s been no word on whether or not he’s accepted. It would be great if he did but for now the offer in sitting on the table. Do you think Jackman would make a great Huntsman?
