Born with amazing diving genes comes pretty Cassidy Krug, another talented athlete on the USA Olympic team that will make us proud at the London Olympics in 2012. Continue reading to learn more about Cassidy from her biography below.
Born to shine, diving since birth, those are one of the cheesy lines that comes to my mind. Not bad for a bumper sticker, but these compliments don’t come even close to what Ms. Krug is capable of doing. But allow me to fill you in.
Cassidy was born on July 12, 1985 in Pittsburgh to diving coaches Dorothy and Julian Krug. She grew up in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania with her beloved family that also includes her adorable brother Kyle.
Getting involved in diving was natural as you can imagine. Mrs. Krug coaches at Pitt Aquatic Cub while Mr. Krug is a coach at the University of Pittsburgh. Cassidy trained at Pitt aquatic with her mom, but she also got into gymnastics. As a matter of fact for 12 years including the time she was studying at Montour High School, she developed into an outstanding gymnast and might have been Olympic-bound in that sport.
After high graduation in 2003 she enrolled at Stanford University where during her freshman year she was named Pac-10 Diving Co-Freshman/Newcomer of the Year, placed 15th at the NCAA Championships, 1st (1m) at the Pac-10 Championships and 3rd in the 3 meters competition. Not bad for a young babe but she was only just beginning.
In 2004 during her sophomore year she placed 2nd (3m) and 3rd (1m) at the Pac-10 Championships, 3rd place (3m) at the NCAA Zone E Championships and earned Honorable Mention Pac-10 All-Academic. This year she also earned her spot with the U.S Olympic team, while placing 7th at the Speedo American Cup and 8th at the U.S Olympic team trials.
The following year, her junior year at Stanford, she placed 3rd (1m) and 4th (3m) at the NCAA Zone E Championships, 2nd (1m), 2nd (3m) at the Pac-10 Championships and with the U.S Team placed 3rd (3m) at the Speedo National Diving Championships. Krug held on to the 4th place at the 2006 Kaiser Permanente National Diving Championships and 1st place in 2007. In 2008 at the U.S Olympic Team trials, she ended up with a disappointing 8th place finish.
She took first place at the podium at the 2010 USA Diving Winter National Championships and at the AT&T National Diving Championships and again in 2011 and 2012.
Cassidy Krug trains in Stanford, California under the direction on the great diving coach Rick Schavone. You can see her Facebook profile here.
