May I please present to you Mariya Koroleva? Her name might be Russian and certainly she was born there, but Mariya is today one of the sensational synchronize swimmers with the USA Olympic Team. Let’s meet her!
The beautiful daughter of Nikolay and Svetlana Koroleva, our dear swimmer was born Mariya Koroleva on April 10, 1990 in Yaroslav, Russia. She is one of the very few athletes to have dual citizenship. She grew up in sunny California, with her parents and brother Ivan.
Mariya graduated in 2008 from Las Lomas High School in Walnut Creek, California and this year she will receive her major in communication and French language from Stanford University where she is also a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority. She is a French tutor at Cardinal Scholars. Mariya joined the USA Olympic synchronized swimming team in 2007.
Mariya’s amazing swimming resume begins in 2002 when she was just a twelve-year-old girl and won first place at the team competition and fourth in trio’s. Then in 2004 she made it onto the Junior Nationals, placing 4th in teams and 5th in trio. The following year she participated at the 2005 Comen Cup and the Junior Nationals placing in the top 10 places. At the Junior Nationals in 2006 she ended up in the 6th place (team), 1st (trio) and 4th (duet).
During the 2007-2009 Junior Nationals Mariya Koroleva placed between the first and second places (team), 1st, 2nd and 3rd (trio). At the 2010 Collegiate Nationals she placed 3rd (duet), 2nd (trio). Last year at the Pan American Games the stunning mermaid placed 2nd (team, duet), 9th (team) at the FINA World championships and 4th (Team) at the Barcelona Trophy.
Mariya Koroleva trains in Indianapolis, Indiana and you would get a chance to see what she is capable of doing do at the 2012 Olympic Games in London where she is expected to perform duets with Mary Killman, but don’t keep your hopes on catching her alone. Her boyfriend is fellow Olympic swimmer Tucker Dupree.
