Is Timothy Michael Poe, America’s Got Talent contestant a liar? I had a hard time watching his story, tears welled up in my eyes and I felt pride, admiration and patriotism while being awestruck at his courage.
To go up in front of hundreds of people and tons of viewers watching, with a stutter was a brave thing to do, but Timothy Michael Poe had the heartbreaking story to go with it.
He said he served in the military for 14 years and in 2009 was hit by a grenade in Afghanistan, which led to a broken back and brain injury, thus leaving him with a stutter.
He told his story on Monday night’s episode,
“I had volunteered for a team to go out and clear buildings and help out with the wounded. There was a guy who come up with a rocket-propelled grenade. I saw it coming down, and by the time I turned and went to jump on top of my guys, I yelled “grenade” and the blast had hit me.”
However it has come out that Timothy Michael Poe’s story is probably a complete lie.
According to military records, Poe did serve in the Minnesota Army National Guard from December 2002 through May 2011.
Records show he was deployed in Kosovo from October 10, 2007, to July 15, 2008, and then served in Afghanistan for about a month in 2009, but there is no record of his injury.
“We looked very closely at his record,” Lt. Col. Kevin Olson, a spokesman for the Minnesota National Guard, told The Associated Press…We did not find something to substantiate what he said. Sgt. Poe’s official military records do not indicate that he was injured by a grenade in combat while serving in Afghanistan in 2009, as he reports.”
He also noted that Poe did not receive the Purple Heart Award. AGT has not commented on this as of yet, but I hope he gets kicked off. His singing wasn’t that good anyway!
Howard Stern vented on his radio show saying that lying about military service is just disgusting. I agreee. What do you think?
