Hollywood has become obsessed with vintage children’s stories. We’re talking about old school fairytales that you, your parents, and your grandparents grew up reading. At this very moment a live action adaptation of Hansel & Gretel is being filmed with Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton, the Wizard of Oz prequel, Oz, The Great and Powerful is in development with James Franco and Mila Kunis, and not one but two Snow White’s are in the works!
One Snow White is entitled Snow White and the Huntsman and it stars Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron as the Evil Queen, and the other stars Armie Hammer as the Prince, Julia Roberts as the queen, and Lily Collins and the title character.
You might be asking yourself, who is Lily Collins and why does she sound familiar? Collins is a former model turned actress who made her feature film debut in the Oscar nominated film The Blind Side. She played the teenage daughter of Sandra Bullock and Tim McGraw’s characters. In real life, she’s the offspring of music legend Phil Collins as in Mr. Sussudio.
Collins landed the coveted role of Snow White this week and she announced the news at Wonder Con where she’s currently promoting her latest film Priest. Priest is based on the popular Tokyo Pop comic book and it features vampires and demons! She’ll also appear in this fall’s action packed drama Abduction starring Taylor Lautner where she’ll play his girlfriend (Don’t be too angry Twilight fans).
The movie is expected to hit theaters in June 2012. With so many fairytale movies to choose from, which will you pick? Who do you think will make a more charismatic Snow White? Stewart’s film is supposed to be darker in tone, therefore Collin’s version might be more traditional. What do you think?
