A man in the United Kingdom has been arrested and sentenced to jail after he was found guilty of hacking into Selena Gomez’ email account and Facebook page. While he was at it he posted a few hate messages about Justin Bieber (applaud him for this) and tried to sell the emails to several magazines, according to media reports.
The Metropolitan police has been informed that 21 year-old Gareth Crosskey has been jailed for a year in England for hacking into a private Facebook account. They didn’t bother mentioning whose Facebook Gareth hacked but you already know.
Police’s e-crime unit reported that he was working at a McDonald’s at the time of his arrest. He hacked into Selena’s Facebook account and private mail last January in a story you can read here and here. Are you wondering how he did it?
According to media he pretended to be Selena’s stepfather Brian Teefey who is the administrator of her account and requested a password reset. Crosskey was so proud about his achievement that he posted a video on Youtube (watch it below) showing viewers how he did it. He said he only did this to show the flaws on Facebook after his own account was also hacked. Hmm. Then why the hell did he write Mr. Teffey and told him that he had copies of emails Selena sent to Justin and to her friend Demi Lovato? and why did he try to sell these private emails to magazines?
Mr. Crosskey was arrested last July when police confiscated storage hardware and his computers. He was released on bail and was back in court on February 2012. He then pleaded guilty to two counts of computer misuse, technically violating a law that prohibits unauthorized acts with intent to impair operation of or prevent/hinder access to a computer. He also accepted his actions were stupid and caused distress, but it was too late for apologies because he will be in jail for 12 months.
So far no photo of Gareth Crosskey has been released, but as soon as we find one we will add it. Meanwhile you can find his Facebook page here and watch Gareth’s video on Youtube explaining his wild hacking ride.
