Latin America just lost an amazing talent. Carlos Fuentes was a talented author, novelist, a loving father and husband to his wife Silvia Lemus. Today we will tell you a little bit about Carlos’ work, his daughter and loving wife.
“La Region mas Transparente,” one of his classic novels can be found in my bookshelf along with his short novels “Las Dos Elenas and “Cantar De Los Ciegos.” I’ve read his novels over so many times and plan to re-read them very soon. Once I visited a friend in Mexico and she was bored to see me at he kitchen table practically devouring their local paper, La Reforma. Was there a buff guy there, she asked me? I jumped off the table almost spilling my coffee. No I replied but one of Carlos Fuentes’ amazing essays. Well, as you can imagine I am a fan.
The news of his death has left me heartbroken for sure but I think he deserves a little tribute. He once said his biggest achievement was his family, and so we will tell you about them. His wife Silvia Lemus is Mr. Fuentes’ second wife. His first wife was Rita Macedo with whom he got married in 1959. They have one daughter, Cecilia, who is now 50 years-old. Her parents divorced when she was 11. (Rita, an actress killed herself in 1993)
Silvia Lemus Fuentes, his second wife, gave birth to their first son Carlos Fuentes Lemus in 1973. They were not married at that time and in Latin America having a child outside the marriage is a no-no. But still the couple celebrated the birth of little Carlos. Silvia became his wife in 1976, the same year she gave birth to their daughter Natasha Fuentes Lemus.
The family moved all over the globe, from the United States, to France and London. Her son became a famous photographer, painter, movie director, and writer. Together with his famous father they wrote “Retratos Del Tiempo.” Sadly the son died at the age of 29 in Jalisco, Mexico.
Losing her son was a hard blow for Silvia. Losing her daughter to drugs was even harder. Natasha died in 2005 in Mexico when she was only 30. She [Silvia] and her husband created the Carlos y Natasha Foundation shortly after.
Silvia was born in Galicia in the northwest region of Spain. She is a famous journalist and television host. On her show Tratos Y Retratos she had the opportunity to interview many celebrities like Mia Farrow, Anthony Quinn, Antonio Banderas and director Steven Spielberg.
Her beloved husband died at Angeles del Pedregal hospital after he was found semi-conscious at his house in D.F. The cause of death was a sudden internal hemorrhage. He was 83.
We send our thoughts and prayers to Carlos Fuentes’ family, his wife Silvia and daughter Cecilia, friends and million of fans throughout this terrible time.

How old is Silvia Lemus (the widow of Carlos Fuentes)? She is a public figure but her year of birth cannot be found; it should be in her Wiki entry.
