The Office in one of NBC’s most popular comedies and it stars the super talented Steve Carell. Last year, Carell announced his plans to move on from the series after the current season, which means his alter ego Michael Scott is exiting stage left. You can’t have an office without a boss, so NBC has been searching for the perfect replacement.

Carell will leave The Office a good month before the season finale, which means there will be a huge void needing to be filled. Several guest stars have been tapped to make the transition a little easier, one of whom we hope will become a permanent fixture.

Ferrell is set to appear in a four episode arc on The Office, which will overlap with Carell’s exit. It’s an interesting combination considering both actor’s histories. The duo is best known for their 2004 film Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, which featured Ferrell as the title character and Carell as weatherman Brick Tamland.

Ferrell cleared his busy film schedule to accommodate his stint on The Office, which means he had to sacrifice some jobs to make it work. Could he possibly stay on board as a regular and replace Carell full time? In a recent interview Ferrell said, “Yes, I’m taking over. I’m friends with Steve and a fan of the show, and I just selfishly wanted to do one episode with him, and they pitched multiple ones, and I said, ‘That’d be great.’”

Even though we’d love to get our Ferrell fix every week, sources close to the actor say it’s not happening. But before you get too depressed, there is another option. Will Arnett, who starred on Arrested Development is also being looked at as a potential replacement. He’s funny, he has a built in audience, and he’s worked with the NBC comedy department before. Who can forget his memorable stint as Devon Banks on 30 Rock?

Arnett seems like the more logical choice among the two. He has the comedic chops to do the job and his Fox series Running Wilde got canceled earlier this season. He’s a free man! Who do you think should replace Steve Carell on The Office?
