They say that a sucker is born every minute while heroes elude us. But hear the story of Lourdes Guillen of New York City who heroically stood in the way of a bullet while protecting her cousin Juan Medina, who was already shot twice. In the news reports we understand that Miss Guillen tried to reason with the shooter, who was apparently acting out in a frustrated rage because her cousin (pictures below with her in the gallery photos) took too long to order. As he prepared to fire a third round, she bravely said “put the gun down. Don’t be that person,” while the man responded by calling her a biatch and unloading one round into her stomach. She saved his life as the would be killer then ran off. You can read the story here.

Biography: Lourdes Guillen is 25-years of age and currently resides in New York City but we believe she is originally from Brooklyn. She has been out of college for only one year while working as a production assistant on The View, the daytime TV current events show on the ABC network.

Lourdes is a recent graduate from the City College of New York where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications and advertising in 2011. While there she was an editor for the school newspaper for almost two years and got her first big break in show business. Miss Guillen was an intern on the set of CNN for Anderson Cooper’s news broadcasts. The following year she interned again for ABC’s Good Morning America program which she turned into a full time paid position upon graduating.

Like all recent graduates she is adept at blogging and social networking. Lourdes’ Twitter page can be found here, while she even has an old blogger blog here where she wrote sparingly in school. We know that she has a Facebook page, so we will post that link when found.

In the pictures on her Twitter page next to her boyfriend, you will notice that Lourdes Guillen is a short woman. On her talent profile here, Lourdes height is listed as only 5’1″ tall, with black hair and brown eyes. Her ethnicity is shown as “Hispanic” while we learned from her Twitter tweets that her family is specifically from the Dominican Republic.

We also learned that in her spare time Lourdes enjoys yoga and working out, while at the same time she tweets a lot about food. She identifies herself as a “food junkie, so it is ironic that she was shot while waiting in line to order.

So my hero for the day is Lourdes Guillen. By the way, she is already talking from her hospital bed so we expect a full recovery. And that is the best news of all. Her cousin Juan Medina is in critical condition undergoing an operation so our hearts and prayers go out to their entire family.
