Yes, it’s been more than a decade since the legendary British rocker took to the stage at Austin City Limits on PBS, the longest running music performance series on television broadcasting hour-long concerts recorded at at Austin’s famed Moody Theater.
His last performance was in 2002. This time around, he performed with his new band, the Sensational Space Shifters. He delivered standout performances not just the iconic hits of his Led Zeppelin days but songs from his critically acclaimed 10th solo album, ‘ Lullaby and… the Ceaseless Roar,’ released in 2014.
But it was very much a nostalgic trip with the likes of Led Zeppelin’s “The Lemon Song” and ‘Black Dog’ in live concert evoking the iconic Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band at the height of their fame in the 1970s. HE and the band also delivered a crowd pleasing mashup performance of the classic ‘Whole Lotta Love’ and Willie Dixon’s iconic blues song, ‘I Just Wanna Make Love to You.’
The Austin concert was a part of Robert Plant’s recent headlining U.S. tour, ‘Blues… Roots And Hollers (A Southern Journey)’ which took him and the Sensational Space Shifters to 11 cities. He said of the tour, ““Having just begun work on our new album, we thought we’d take time out to raise a little sand and welcome springtime with one more adventure, another celebration of life and song.”
