Dolly Parton opens up about her ‘Pure & Simple Tour, her first in 25 years, and the upcoming ‘Coat of Many Colors’ sequel movie, which premieres at Christmastime.
The country music legend celebrated her 70th birthday this year and with 43 albums and countless accolades she is going strong. Her most recent album ‘Pure & Simple’ was released to critical acclaim. Entertainment Weekly said of the album, “it shows that five decades into her career, Parton isn’t a nostalgia act—she’s still one of America’s most vital country songsmiths.”
She also emboarkand the new tour borrows its title. It’s the first time she has gone on tour in a quarter of a century. The 60-city tour kicked off in June and wraps in December.
As Billboard reports, she said of the tour, ““One of the reasons I’m doing this full-blown tour this year — because I didn’t know when I would be doing another full-blown tour, overseas or here — [is] because I’m planning on going into more production on television shows.”
The new television movie is ‘Dolly Parton’s Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love and it’s the sequel to the wildly popular ‘Coat of Many Colors’ which took its title from her 1970s hit song. Like the first one, it will chronicle stories from here life. She said of the movie, ““It’s about when a Mama who never had a wedding ring all the years she was married and had a house full of kids so it was about the year that we all made enough money to try to get Mama a wedding ring. It’s a sweet little story.”
Dolly Parton also discussed some of her upcoming plans including a television series about her Uncle Bill that she hopes to produce. She said of her uncle that he ““helped me travel around and helped me get started.” Continuing, she went on to say, “If I do the series, then I’ll be in some of those, playing a grown-up Dolly as a reflection with the little girl [Alyvia Alyn Lind] that played Dolly; it will be her dreams, her future, or me reflecting back on my past.”
