The wait is just about over, as The Rolling Stones’ first album in eleven years is due out on December 2nd. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers had been dropping prodigious hints for days on social media; you can see some of the images below.

It will be the 23rd British and 25th U.S. album overall respectively and features their current and longtime lineup — Mick Jagger, Charlie Watts, Keith Richards and Ron Wood. For the band that dates back to 1962 this is the longest ever gap between albums, although the band has been performing world tours consistently throughout that long drought.

According to the BBC, the band recorded the album in just three days in London. It’s comprised entirely of covers of blues classics from the likes of Jimmy Reed and Howlin’ Wolf. Guitar legend Eric Clapton is among the featured artists.

The band thus returns to their early roots of blues-inspired music that first won them acclaim on both sides of the pond with their 1960s hits. Earlier this year in an interview with the BBC Ronnie Wood spoke about the new album, saying in part of the songs they had recorded so quickly, “They sound so authentic it’s frightening.”

Elaborating, he added, “”We didn’t spend any time rehearsing them or anything. We just picked a song that suited Mick’s harmonica or a guitar riff… and they worked out pretty good. It was like, ‘this is what the Stones do, we play blues.'”
