Britney Spears’ opened up about her performance at the MTV VMAs and her new album ‘Glory.’ The pop icon also spoke out about what it was like to do ‘Carpool Karaoke’ with James Corden and whether or not she will tour again. Get all the details here!
The 34-year-old pop superstar has a new album out, ‘Glory,’ her first since 2013’s ‘Billie Jean’ and with it, quite a massive rollout including an exceedingly rare appearance at the MTV VMas as a performer.
In an interview with Cubby & Carolina Bermudez on New York City radio station KTU 103.5 FM she said of the performance, “I still get very nervous.” She wen ton to note that at the there’s “just something in the air at the VMAs, it’s like electric. I can’t really explain it. Every time I’ve performed there it’s always been one of these nerve-racking experiences.”
Her residency in Las Vegas began in late 2013 and extends into 2017. That’s quite a chunk of time for an artist who’s in her prime. And it begs the question, of course, what’s next? Surely a tour is in the realm of possibility. She said, “”You never know, honestly, my situation right now is very cool, I’m kind of spoiled,” she dished. “But, you know, who knows what the future brings.”
Her new album ‘Glory’ has divided critics to say the least. It leaked days before its scheduled release date, and there are some “comeback” pressures as it follows the aforementioned ‘Billie Jean’ which was her lowest charting album of her entire career.
She said of it, “When we first started the project, I wasn’t really happy. That took about six months. Then we found an amazing girl who found me the most fun people to write with. Things started rolling. We made a good body of work.”
Britney Spears even weighed in on her recent appearance with James Corden on the hugely popular ‘Carpool Karaoke’ (video below). She told the radio talk show hosts, “The guy was just so incredibly sweet. I had no idea he has kids, he’s a teddy bear. I was like, ‘I just want to hug you right now.'”
She went on to say, “It was a little awkward, like, driving by grocery stores. People walk by and there are like 18 cameras around us. This is just so awkward.”
She revealed that for her the awkwardness also extended to the song choices and that two of her most iconic hits, …Baby One More Time” and “Oops!… I Did It Again” were ones that she was less than enthusiastic about. She said, “”Oh my God, and he kept playing them. He put a wig on for it. Yeah, I totally went along with it.”
