Hilary Duff opens reveals her diet and workout routine and the foods she relies on to stay trim and healthy. The former ‘Lizzie McGuire’ star also speaks about the challenges of balancing motherhood and family life.

The 28-year-old actress and singer may have risen to fame as a child star, but she’s many years into her adult acting career and is currently one of the star of the TV series ‘Younger’ portraying, book editor, Kelsey Peters. She gave birth to her first child, four-year-old Luca Cruz Comrie with her ex- husband, former NHL star, Mike Comrie in 2012. And as is the case with celebrities her post-baby body weight loss journey has been closely followed.

She revealed some tidbits in a recent interview with US Weekly and spoke about her daily diet routine. She said, “I am not a creature of habit with my food at all. I’m always in the mood for something different. My new favorite addition to my egg is sriracha salt.”

The celebrity news outlet also reports that her favorite dinner menu includes fish and roasted vegetables. As for whether or not she cheats on her diet, she herself says that if she’s going to indulge, she does so at lunchtime. She said, “I’ll usually eat a salad and possibly some french fries.” She added, “Gotta be a little naughty!”

As for her workout routine, she combines a variety of exercises from hiking to hiking to dancing to boxing as well as both yoga and strength training. She also told the publication that for cardio, her favorite workout equipement is the VersaClimber. She said of it, “I need my butt kicked because I’m not great at dieting.”

As any one who has tried it knows, a workout on the VersaClimber is a challenge, and it will get results. It’s not exactly the forgiving pace of, say, an elliptical trainer.

Last year she told Shape about the pressures that women in the public eye face to lose the baby weight quickly. She said, “You see supermodels who have babies, and the next week they look as if they were never pregnant. That was not the case with me. Some days I feel great, others I feel pretty normal, and that’s acceptable.”

Recently, she told Cosmopolitan about the challenges of losing weight and regaining her fitness after giving birth to her son and said, “It takes a lot of focus and dedication — knowing that it’s possible to get back into shape. Talking to your friends about it. Just trying to motivate and reserve your energy to make sure you can get to the gym. Really cutting out things that are your vices for a little while.”

She also opened up about the challenges of balancing motherhood with the rest of her life, including shooting the new season of ‘Younger.’ She said, “After having a kid, I don’t come first anymore. I don’t have as much time to worry about it. Obviously, I care about how I look, and I care about taking care of myself and being in a good mental place, and working out really helps that, but I also like to eat food and drink drinks and enjoy my life.”
