Zella Day opens up about the plant-based diet tips and fitness secrets that keep her healthy and trim. The rising music star reveals her passion for following a healthy diet how it has helped her with her with the rigors of constant travel, touring and live concerts.
The 20-year-old Arizona native Zella Day’s major-label debut album ‘Kicker’ was released a year ago to critical acclaim, producing ‘Hypnotic,’ her biggest hit to date. Her career — as a music artist embracing a variety of genres including folk rock — has been on a zenith ever since.
She first drew notice with her cover of The White Stripes’ ‘Seven Nation Army.’ Those critics who are comparison prone have seen parallels in her music to that of Lana Del Rey. She’s also been on the radar as a style icon, for her embrace of a California boho style, as you can see in the pics below.
In a recent interview for Billboard (as part of the Silk #DoPlants campaign) the singer-songwriter opened up not about her musical success, but instead something a bit more fundamental, how she maintains her health. She’s among a growing number of celebrities who embrace a vegan, or plant-based diet.
She said of the constant touring, “The bus is just a more controlled environment. Everything is foreign, you’re in a different city, around new people…Food can easily become a comfort.”
Continuing, she revealed how she maintains a healthy diet, saying, “I’ve had to really make a mental shift about how I think about food. I have a refrigerator that I stock every weekend with farmer’s market stuff.”
She also acknowledged that being in the public eye is something she’s acknowledges she keeps in mind. She said, “It’s important to me to look the part as well as being the frontwoman, being healthy and confident.”
She noted that her diligent efforts are paying off. She said, “Over the past year, my performances have become even more energetic than they started off being, and I’m more physical onstage. That’s why I go running every day. I need the stamina. I need my lungs to fill up 100% so that I can sustain myself for the hour and a half that I’m playing.”
Continuing, she added, “I need to be able to have the flexibility to do what I want when I want to do it.”
