In perhaps her most amazing red carpet appearance yet, the actress and comedian is in a 1950s inspired dress. Yes, with the iconic cinched waistline and circle skirt such as we love to dress up in come Fifties Day parties. It’s festooned with beautiful embroidered flowers all over the bodice and skirt.

This time her stylist, designer Judy B. Swartz, speaks up about the dressing the star and is candid about the challenges in Hollywood for women who don’t fit those damning, skinny “norms.” Swartz is known to many for her work with Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen back in the days when they were child stars. She worked with McCarthy on her fashion line Seven7 and now has been styling her for some of these major red carpet appearances including the current ‘Ghostbusters’ rollout.

She tells THR, what her approach has been in dressing McCarthy over the past year indlucing SNL’s 40th Anniversary event and the red carpet for the finale of ‘Mike & Molly.’

She said, “I wanted to make her kind of edgy because she’s beautiful and she’s young and she’s hip.” She goes on to say, “I think the whole vision of her changed.”

Swartz also spoke about the importance of breaking the rules when it comes to styling whether for so-called plus size or otherwise. She said, ““I’ll be honest with you, I really feel that women should not limit themselves.” She went on to add, “I’ve seen women come alive in things you wouldn’t think they should wear.”

As for the success of the fashion line, Seven7, Swartz told WWD, “I was challenged to find a different vision for Melissa. It was the same as [the Olsens] where there weren’t any clothes to buy.” She goes on to speak of McCarthy’s role in the business, saying, “She’s really a full-blown designer and I’m just dressing her in her pieces.”

Melissa McCarthy herself has been at the forefront of this new trend towards mainstreaming the plus-size side of the fashion world, and breaking down the barriers and the stigma. These edgy red carpet looks go a long way towards that end, even as people may marvel over her weight loss.

the rarely gives interviews on the topic of her red carpet styles, and much less her weight loss. You never seen her dishing on her diet and weight loss tips. Any such diet plan is pure speculation. She told Refinery 29 “There are so many more intriguing things about women than their butt or their this or their that. It can’t be the first question every time, or a question at all.”

Yes, and we know overall that women on the red carpet, no matter what their size, are often relegated to these superficial questions about their looks and what they’re wearing! Nonetheless, McCarthy is dazzling once again on the red carpet, and you can see the photos and video below!
