Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas paid tribute to the fallen during their concert at the Amway Center in Orlando as part of their Honda Civic Future Now Tour. As the world knows, it’s a city that saw duo tragedies on a single weekend. On a Ssturday night, in the midst of June, LBGT Pride Month, the city saw the worst mass shooting in U.S. history as 49 lost their lives at the LGBT Pulse nightclub. That was preceded Friday night’s tradegy which saw, ‘The Voice’ finalist and rising pop star Christina Grimmie was shot to death during a meet and greet in her concert in Orlando, the gunman then turned the gun on himself.
The 23-year-old former Disney channel stars turned pop music superstars embarked on their world tour just days ago in Atlanta, dazzling the crowd with a surprise appearance by multi-Grammy winning superstar rapper T.I. This time around, yes, there were guests but now a solemn remembrance. As Rolling Stone reports, and as you can see below, they welcome a man named Hank to the stage who led the audience in an emotionally touching prayer for the victims and families as Lovato and Jonas stood side by side.
Next to take to the stage was Andra Day as all three sang her inspirational song ‘Rise Up’ a track from her major-label debut album, ‘Cheers to the Fall.’ The the soaring anthem speaks of courage in the midst of obstacles and challenges, and with such lines as “We gonna walk it out / And move mountains” it spoke powerfully to the circumstances.
Accompanied by an acoustic piano, the three singers sang alternating lines of the song, as the names and ages of the 49 Pulse nightclub victims and Christina Grimmie scrolled on the backdrop of the stage.
But that was not the extent of their compassion in Orlando. Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas gifted approximately 30 employees of Pulse nightclub with free tickets to the show, as TMZ reports. They were given the VIP treatment, complete with a meet and great. You can see the photo below via Facebook.
Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas now join countless performing artists and celebrities who have been paying tribute to the fallen in Orlando. Just a few nights earlier, Justin Bieber delivered a stunning performance of his hit single ‘Purpose’ at that very same venue.
