Kesha kicked off her mini residency in Las Vegas at the Intrigue Nightclub. You can see video highlights and photos of the singer’s triumphant return to the stage amidst her ongoing legal battle with Sony and producer Dr. Luke.
For the 29-year-old singer-songwriter who rose to fame several years ago with the smash hit ‘Tik Tok’ a performance on a concert stage is not commonplace and sadly not something to be expected. She’s been mostly absent not just as a recording artist but as a performer as her legal embroilment is not yet over.
For many she’s become a symbol of defiance and of courage for speaking out about claims of alleged sexual abuse at the hands of producer Dr. Luke whom she continues to name as the alleged perpetrator.
She took to the stage at the Intrigue Nightclub at Wynn Las Vegas for the first of three concerts and fans have dutifully documented the exciting moments on Instagram and YouTube and other social media.
Paying homage to the Las Vegas showgirl tradition she was adorned in a white leotard layered with a T-shirt with a plunging neckline, emblazoned with a LGBT Pride rainbow motif. She topped off the outfit with a white wrap trimmed with white feathers.
Her residency continues for two more nights — June 25 and July 23rd. After that, who knows when she might grace the stage again. She had a worldwide audience last month at the Billboard Music Awards, and performed a stunning and emotional cover of Bob Dylan’s ‘It Ain’t Me, Babe.’ It was her first television appearance in what seems like forever.
That was preceded by a surprise appearance at Coachella when she joined Zedd on stage for a performance of ‘True Colors,’ their empowerment anthem which just happens to share the title of Cyndi Lauper’s iconic 1980s classic.
In recent weeks she’s also had to fend off attacks from cyberbullies who have body shamed her, a travail for anyone, famous or not, but most especially for someone who’s publicly battled an eating disorder. She has proved formidable in shutting down such trolls.
She’s also a recipient recently of the Human Rights Campaign Visibility Award in Nashville. In a powerful acceptance speech she shared words of encouragement gathered members of the LGBT community that are wise words for us all. “My message to you today is don’t be afraid to speak up against any injustice you experience. Don’t let people scare and shame you into changing the things about yourself that make you unique.”
No doubt but that she continues to live out that message. You can see the video highlights and photos of what for Kesha was the exciting kickoff of her Las Vegas residency!
