Julianne Hough is opening up about her successful diet and weight loss strategies and sharing her fitness tips. The actress and former DWTS offers some surprising, and seemingly contrarian advice on staying slim and healthy.

The 27-year-old actress and dancer has long been in the spotlight and has always displayed an enviable and impeccable physique. Naturally the public wants to know, what’s the secret to success? In a recent interview, she spoke about what she does now to stay fit and trim, post-Dancing with the Stars.

She revealed that when she was “growing up it was never an issue for me to think about working out or having a healthy lifestyle because I danced so much.”

Julianne Hough went on to speak of the challenges she faces now, saying, “When I stopped dancing and I got into regular life mode, I didn’t realize how much diet and nutrition and being active was so important. Not only for my physical state, but for my mental state, too. I think that’s just as important as working out for your physical state.”

As for her workout routine now, she said, “I definitely get bored very easily so I have to mix it up a bunch. I’m one of those people that loves to try everything.”

Continuing, she said, “I do a lot of boutique studio classes — Body by Simone or Tracy Anderson, I do Core Power Yoga, Soul Cycle, Rise Nation. I work out with Astrid my trainer every once in a while to kind of mix it up. I think that’s important because it kind of shocks your body and you get to see more results.”

She also identified what she believes are the fitness mistake that people make as “not listening to your body and maybe you push it too hard and overdo it.”

She spoke up strongly against the lure of crash dieting and seemingly fast results, saying, “Some of these fad diets and quick fixes, they might be quick, but you’re going to crash and burn. Take a little bit of extra time and make it a lasting thing.

Lest we think that Julianne Hough has conquered dieting and weight loss, she opened up about the challenges she faces. She said, “I definitely am the kind of person that fluctuates up and down. I work really hard for a certain project and then I’m like, ‘Oh, I’m done.’ Then I realize maybe I shouldn’t be having that fifth pizza this week.”

She said her vice is “Italian food” and specifically, “a margherita pizza, penne arbiota, a glass of wine.”

As for how manages to not overindulge, Hough said, “It’s more about balance for me. I used to be an all or nothing person. And now I would rather have a lifestyle change — rather than use the word ‘diet’ — where 90 percent of the time spend my life that way and 10 percent of the time have fun and do what my body feels like it needs or craves.”
