The 66-year-old Jerry “The King” Lawler and his 27-year-old fiance, Lauryn McBride, both face charges after the incident which took place in Lawler’s home in Memphis in the wee hours of Friday morning. You can see the booking photos above; larger images are below.
According to TMZ, quoting police sources, McBride claims that Lawler hit her in the head and pushed her against the stove. She also claims that he got an unloaded pistol and told her to kill herself with it.
Lawler’s account of what happened conflicts this story, as he claims that McBride scratched his face, fired a candle at him and kicked him in the groin. He also claims she was intoxicated and that she is the one who brought the gun into the kitchen.
As WRGE reports, both Lawson and McBride were arrested and booked into the Shelby County Jail at around 1 a.m. on Friday morning.
Lawler rose to fame in the 1990s as a WWE wrestler. He is a three-time World Class Championship Wrestling World Heavyweight Champion and in 2007 he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. Semi-retired from wrestling, he had been serving as color commentator for ‘Main Event’ and ‘SmackDown.’
Now the WWE has suspended him and issued a written statement: “WWE has zero tolerance for matters involving domestic violence, and per our policy, Jerry Lawler has been suspended indefinitely following his arrest.”
From the jailhouse, Lawler gave an exclusive interview to local television station WMC Action News 5. You can hear the full audio below as he tells his side of the story. He claimed the fight began after his longtime girlfriend McBride returned home drunk after attending a basketball game, saying, in part, “Sometimes when she overdrinks, we get into a little bit of a shouting match.” He claimed that the conflict escalated when he refused to allow her to leave in the drunken state.
