The 45-year-old ‘No Doubt’ front woman is about to embark upon her first solo tour since 2007. Much has happened since the ‘Hollaback Girl’ smash hit, one of the biggest of the Aughts.

This time around, as Gwen Stefani hits the road on the tour which kicks off July 12th in , she’s been one half of one of the most dominant stories in music; her divorce from Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale and her unfolding romance with country music superstar Blake Shelton who for his part divorced fellow country music superstar Miranda Lambert. It’s a story that long ago crossed over from music, of course, and into celebrity tabloids and just plain gossip.

But Stefani, first in her self-confessed autobiographical album ‘This Is What the Truth Feels Like’ has embraced that. It’s driven album sales — given her a No. 1 debut on the Billboard 200 — but there are unconfirmed reports that tour sales have not been as stellar.

While she did not address that topic, she did open up about what fans can expect from the new tour. As Billboard reports, she spoke with reporters in a conference call. She said in part, “The whole show for me is not about what I’m wearing or even how I sing.”

She went on to elaborate, adding, “It’s really about the connection and connecting. I want people to feel like they know me by the end of it, and if I have to slap ‘em around and tell ‘em what to do, by the end of the show I want to walk away and feel like we know each other and that we have a connection.”

She put that within the context of the razzle dazzle expected of a Gwen Stefani tour — she is, after all, still a reigning fashion and style icon — and said, “You will have fun and I will control you, and by the end of this we’re gonna be best friends.’ That’s my attitude.”

And as for that razzle dazzle, it is in full display in her latest music video from the album, ‘Misery.’ Rather than a sort of gloomy, reflective montage, instead the Sophie Muller-directed clip has nonstop imagery of Gwen Stefani at her best, in multiple costumes. Yes, “multiple” might be understating it! Billboard notes that she acknowledged the success of the video and said, “It was like an art project…like, how many outfits and looks can we do in one day? It was kind of like a Vogue fashion shoot, but to music and actually moving. It was just a lot of fun.”

No clues as to the set list, although Gwen Stefani did say that along with the entire ‘This Is What the Truth Feels Like’ album, but she underscored the personal approach she’s taking, describing it as “super-emotional” and added that she will “be revisiting those emotions I had then.” She added, “But it’s incredible to be in the position of being a songwriter and sharing your story with people and having people relate to it. It makes you feel better about being in your own life.”

The new tour kicks off soon and reports of ticket sales will soon be replaced with actual hardcore data and in place of speculation, the reviews of critics and the usual flood of comments and images on social media as once again, Gwen Stefani hits the road as a solo artist for the fourth time in her career on the much-anticipated ‘This Is What the Truth Feels Like’ tour.
