If you haven’t yet seen the ‘Nashville’ season finale, you should not be reading this — spoilers abound!

It’s been a four-year run, as Music City was the centerpiece of this musical drama. There are so few of them on television — ‘Empire’ of late, has become a spectacular hit and a pop cultural phenomena. And before that, of course, we had ‘Glee,’ another phenomena.

The series from creator Callie Khouri had its premiere in 2012, with an archetypal premise, a sort of ‘All About Eve’ narrative, chronicling the lives of a legendary, but now fading country music star, Connie Britton’ Rayna Jaymes and Hayden Panettiere’s rising star, Juliette Barnes.

But now it’s Nashville taking a final bow — in season 4, episode 21, “Maybe You’ll Appreciate Me Someday” and with it, provoking the usual uproar. There’s no way any one single ending can satisfy everyone, of course. And as any network television series ends, we’re always left wondering is it really truly the end or is there some Netflix or Hulu or Amazon revival somewhere down the digital road. If fans have any say — and they’ve been vocal with the #BringBackNashville campaign — the show is not over.

And so we were left with a cliffhanger ending, which may give some hope to those who are hoping. And not only that, but Lionsgate TV, the show’s producer chimed in with a tantalizing Tweet, which you can see below.

Now as the show fades to black, are we left with a satisfying conclusion along with the aforementioned glimmer of hope? Here’s a spoiler — critics are divided! Truthfully, the real shocker would be a universal agreement and applause. Well, not the case this time around.

And once again, be warned that there are spoilers in this roundup of reviews, so proceed, or not!

“….So although there are some serious cliffhangers in this what-was-supposed-to-be-just-a-season-finale, for now fans must try and find whatever closure they can from the episode. …” –The Hollywood Reporter

“….But as “Nashville” used its not-quite-a-finale to seek out an afterlife on Hulu or CMT or wherever — check out this suggestive tweet from the show’s creator, Lionsgate — you couldn’t help but tip your cowboy hat in recognition of its last over-the-top gasp……” –L.A. Times

“….. If Nashville manages to find another network to jump ship, this was a hell of an ending. If they don’t, all “Javery” fans will be very disappointed……” –TVOM

“….The finale itself followed the formula for a steel-toe-boot-to-the-heart country song: one part lovin’, two parts tears, 10 parts near-certain tragedy and one part repentant teenager, praise Reba….” –Yahoo! TV

“….[T]he series finale, found families reuniting, Layla served her comeuppance, Will speaking out loud and proud, and all of the characters showing just how far they’ve come…..” — TV Fanatic

The series is over, but the discussion of course will never, ever end! nd perhaps, that much-hoped for revival will come about. You can see video highlights below — spoilers, of course — of the series finale of ‘Nashville.’
