Yes, we have a winner and we have also an historic moment for the NBC reality TV talent show. In all nine previous seasons, winners — whether male or female singers — have been coached by male coaches. That seems quite the statistical anomaly on the surface. But we now has a winner coached by a woman, Christina Aguilera who returned this season. She’s among only three female coaches thus far, Gwen Stefani and Shakira being the other two. All along, Blake Shelton and Adam Levine have been the mainstays, appearing in all 10 seasons and entertaining us with their alternating bromance and rivalry.

Last season we had a front runner from the very start in winner Jordan Smith, who’s already released his debut album. this time around, we also had a front runner in 34-year-old Alisan Porter. But there was a marked different this time. Smith was an unknown from a small town in Kentucky, a singer just embarking upon his career.

As for Alisan Porter, she follows in the other mode of contenders in that she had a career in the entertainment work, in fact, starting out as a child actress, and rising to fame as the star of the 1991 movie ‘Curly Sue.’ Now in quite a different setting, as a grown up singer she defeated her fellow finalists, Team Blake Shelton’s Adam Wakefield, Pharrell Williams’ Hannah Huston and Adam Levine’s Laith Al-Saadi.

We’ve seen others who have had some kind of longstanding history in the entertainment industry, not least Judith Hill, a longtime backup singer of such luminaries as Michael Jackson, and featured in the Morgan Neville documentary on backup singers, ’20 Feet from Stardom.’ Her elimination in season 8 is still arguably one of the biggest such shock elimination in the show’s history.

But Alisan Porter has prevailed and become the winner. After the show, according toPeople she told reporters, “I have retired Curly Sue, she is dead! I am now the girl who won The Voice.” Continuing, she added, “I would like you all to know. I’ve waited 30 something years for that! She’s dead!”

Right from the start, she made it clear that it was music that was her true calling. During her blind audition, she said, “I was an actress when I was very young. It’s not my passion. This is my passion.”

In the past few years, as she has returned to the spotlight, releasing two albums — most recently in 2014 — she has been open about her battle with alcoholism, revealing on her popular blog, The Lil’ Mamas, that she had achieved sobriety. Married to Brian Autenrieth since 2012, she’s the mother of two children a daughter and a son.

After a long and suspenseful season, she is well on her way to achieving success in what was her dream career and making it a reality. Alisan Porter is, most emphatically, ‘The Voice’ winner in season 10! See the photos and video highlights below!
