The 52-year-old actor, best known for portraying Baltimore Police Detective William “Bunk” Moreland on HBO’s drama series ‘The Wire’ and was recently seen in the HBO movie ‘Confirmation,’ portraying Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas opposite Kerry Washington’s Anita Hill.
The story of his arrest went viral and along with it, the search for the booking photo (above) ensued even as the details of the alleged incident were being revealed.
According to TMZ, at the Loews Hotel in Atlanta Wendell Pierce struck up a conversation with a woman and her boyfriend at approximately 3:30 in the morning, local time. The site further reports that when the discussion turned to politics, the woman professed that she was a supporter of Democratic Presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders.
The site notes that Pierce, who is a supporter of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s candidacy — then became enraged and pushing the boyfriend aside and went on to attack the woman, allegedly grabbing her hair and hitting her in the head. The couple then reportedly went back to their hotel room and called hotel security from the room, and security in turn contacted the police.
Pierce was arrested at his hotel room, booked into Fulton County Jail and charged with battery. Upon posting $1,000 bond he was released. According to NBC News, Atlanta Police Department spokesman Donald Hannah said in a written statement that Pierce’s arrest was like “any other arrest” and that Pierce “made no indication he was famous, nor did the officer inquire.”
