For the third year in a row, Kim Kardashian is among the stars stealing the scene at the annual Met Gala. Last year, she paid homage to Cher with a dazzling Robert Cavalli haute couture gown with a stunning train comprised of feathers. The year before, she drove headlines with a wardrobe malfunction.

This time around, at what’s arguably fashion’s biggest night, the Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum, celebrating the annual exhibition at the Costume Institute, both she and Kanye West are winning accolades — and, as expected, a bit of mockery on social media as well.

With this year’s exhibition setting the futuristic theme “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology” — the couple took it to the red carpet, as Kim Kardashian was attired in a silver skin-tight gown flaunted her impressive weight loss since giving birth to the couple’s second child, Saint West, and it had a dramatic high slit, revealing shapely legs.

For his part, Kanye West drew mixed reviews, in his metallic denim jacket, studded with crystals and sequins and faded and ripped blue jeans. While not the black tie formal wear one might expect, it did echo the theme. All the more so as he wore contact lens that made his eyes silvery, otherworldly and even a bit scary.

Perhaps to the surprise of some Vogue magazine awarded the duo by naming them the best dressed couple at the Met Gala. Vogue said in part, “Together the Kimye effect was nothing short of dazzling.”

Kanye West took to Twitter, thrilled with the honor, Tweeting, “I’m really excited to get our first best dressed at the met … This Gala is like the Grammys of style!”

He went on to thank Vogue editor Anna Wintour, Tweeting, “Thank you Anna for the invite thank you to the whole Vogue team.” And not least, he gave praise to Balmain designer Olivier Rousteing: “Thank you Olivier for making 4 dresses for Kim to choose from which we chopped 2 in half.”

Balmain posted numerous photos as well as a video the couple on Instagram which you can see below, highlighting the truly futuristic creations. The brand also produced some custom styles for other attendees at the Met Gala including Jourdan Dunn, Doutzen Kroes, and Alessandra Ambrosio. It’s just the latest coup for the brand which has also designed some of the costumes for Beyonce’s Formation World Tour.
