Susan Sarandon speaks out about her latest role in ‘The Meddler’ and is also candid about her dating life. She was youthful and svelte on the red carpet in a black pantsuit at the Tribeca premiere of the movie and you can see the photos and video right here.

The 69-year-old Susan Sarandon is drawing notice for her leading role in Lorene Scafaria’s ‘The Meddler’ which sees her portraying a widow who relocates to L.A. and tussles with her grown up daughter, portrayed by Rose Byrne. The movie had its premiere in New York City at the Tribeca Film Festival.

This, of course, being Hollywood and double standards and all that. Clint Eastwood as an octogenarian has had lead role after lead role — and some Oscar nods to boot — and no on raises the proverbial eyebrow. But in contrast Sarandon, months away from becoming a septuagenarian is, sadly, an anomaly in a leading role with a romantic interest, that being co-star J.K. Simmons.

She opened up about this and more in a recent interview with New York magazine’s Vulture. She said, “I was moved when I read the script. I wasn’t dying, I wasn’t helping someone else die. So that was good!”

She went on to say, “You know, you do get a lot of supporting parts as you get older. I listen to Helen Mirren, who told me, “I look and see where the character comes into the script, and then I go to the last page and I see if she’s still in the film at the end — and if she’s not, then I don’t even read it.” I thought that’s pretty good advice.”

As for playing a romantic lead as a woman in her 60s, Sarandon said, “You know, what is seen as being sexy onscreen is really about connection, rather than “being sexy.” When two people see each other onscreen and you believe they see each other in a way nobody else does, that is chemistry.”

Elaborating, she added, “It can be between a man and a woman, two men, two women — in The Client, it was me and the kid — but that’s what the audience tunes into, is connection. It translates as chemistry.”

The new movie is receiving critical acclaim, and, who knows, might be just the first of many more leading roles for the actress who’s been in so many iconic movies from ‘Thelma & Louise’ to ‘Lorenzo’s Oil.’

In a recent interview with People Susan Sarandon opened up about her dating life since having split last year with longtime boyfriend, 38-year-old Jonathan Bricklin, who was also her costar in the AOL reality series ;Connected.’

In revealing why she eschews dating apps such as Tinder, she told the celebrity news outlet, “I’m a New Yorker, I’ve always lived here but one of the reasons that I love New York is that the serendipity is just so thick here, so you can go out on the street and just see things you didn’t count on and you don’t have to swipe left or right.” She went on to say, “My daughter keeps telling me, ‘Just be open. I keep saying, ‘I’m open, I’m open. I’ve been open.'”
