James Iha and Smashing Pumpkin reunited for the first time in 16 years for a live concert performance. You can see the video and the photos that are going viral revealing the reunion in Los Angeles of the guitarist with his former band mates; frontman Billy Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin.

It’s been 16 long years but now the long wait is over and the seemingly improbably reunion has happened; the band members reunited on stage for the first time since the year 2000 when the band broke up, eventually regrouping five years later, but not with James Iha. It was a Saturday night concert on Easter eve at Ace Hotel in L.A. which was also Iha’s 48th birthday that saw the trio back together again.
As Rolling Stone reports, it was Billy Corgan who announced to the surprised crowd, “Yes, it’s James Iha.”
For the audience present at the live show, and now for everyone, thanks to YouTube, it was the proverbial trip down memory lane as the band performed some of the songs from their breakthrough sophomore album, 1993’s ‘Siamese Dream.’ They revisited ‘Today,’ Rocket’ and “Mayonaise,” among others. Plus, as one of the encores, the entire crowd sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to James Iha. No small feat, incidentally, as up until very recently, the iconic song was copyrighted but thanks to a recent lawsuit settlement it’s now in the public domain.
Since the 2000 breakup of the original Smashing Pumpkins lineup, James Iha had gone on to perform as a member of two different supergroups; A Perfect Circle and Tinted Windows. He released his sophomore solo album, ‘Look to the Sky,’ in 2012.
But, as noted, that L.A. concert was all awash with nostalgia of the 1990s with a surprise reunion. Here’s the full set-list:
