Iggy Azalea delivered a spirited debut television performance of her new single ‘Team’ just days after its official release. It’s the lead single from the Grammy-nominated Australian rapper’s highly anticipated ‘Digital Distortions’ album.

The 25-year-old Iggy Azalea took to the stage of ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’ for the debut performance. Had all gone according to plan, it would have actually been her second performance of the day, but the Brussels terror attacks forced the postponement of her live morning television appearance on ‘GMA.’

The single, ‘Team,’ debuted simultaneously with its lyric video, which, in keeping with the tradition of such videos becoming more and more like the “official” music videos proper, featured a live-action troupe of dancers as animated lyrics were superimposed. And the lyrics are spirited and empowering with such lines as ““Baby I got me, and that’s all I need, only friend I need.”

The performance on the ‘Tonight Show’ revealed Iggy Azalea dancing alongside her backup dancers and sporting a green suit jacket and pands ensemble one could easily wear to work. Not your typical scanty pop music star costume.

‘Digital Distortion’ will be Iggy Azalea’s sophomore studio album, and follows her wildly successful debut, ‘The New Classic’ and most especially ‘Fancy’ her international smash hit, arguably the song of the summer back in 2014.

Yes, it’s been a while but ‘Team’ is the new single. It finally lands her in the news for her music instead of for multiple feuds — most notably with Azealia Banks, a feud which has no end in sight and has long since exhausted any potential publicity boom for either performer. And then there’s been the plastic surgery speculation that dogs many a celebrity, and led to her admission to a nose job.

She was even name-checked in Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ controversial ‘White Privilege II’ song which called her out — among others — for cultural appropriation. Yes, a rough climate, politically and musically for an Australian woman hoping to have enduring success in hip-hop.

Even Forbes magazine is weighing in on the probability of her comeback, tracking the commercial success, thus far, of ‘Team’ and noting that its official lyric video racked up 4.6 million YouTube views in the first three days, alongside more than 850,000 streams on Spotify. Impressive numbers or not? Of course, as the saying goes, time will tell and ultimately music fans will have to decide if they’re with the ‘Team’ and any other singles she might release from ‘Digital Distortion’ in the days leading up to its June release.
