Adam Lambert opened up about the rumors that he is dating fellow music superstar Sam Smith, making his first public comments since the speculation began. He also spoke about his new single, ‘Welcome to the Show,’ and returning to perform on American Idol.
Yes, Adam Lambert is back on the scene with a new single, ‘Welcome to the Show,’ and a praiseworthy return to American Idol’s 15th and final season, the show that launched his career when he became runner up in season 8.
But of course, first things first, the rumors. It all started with an Instagram photo, a selfie with Sam Smith, which you can see below. The two were later, as the story and speculation exploded, seen together at a club in New York City and described by various outlets as seeming to be cozy together.
Naturally, the new couple alert was triggered, and suddenly we had unconfirmed reports that the two men were dating. What a power couple that would be. Sam Smith just won the Best Song Oscar for his James Bond ‘Spectre’ theme song ‘Writing’s on the Wall,’ and has been a hit in celebrity circles for his dramatic weight loss transformation. Relationship rumors have been swirling around him for months as he’s been linked with one and then another star. Now this time, Adam Lambert.
Thus, when Adam Lambert spoke with Ryan Seacrest (audio below), to promote his new single ‘Welcome to the Show’ and his stunning performance on American Idol, the dutiful host, of course, asked him point blank, “I have to ask you about it, because everybody’s talking about it… are you and my buddy Sam Smith doing something together?”
To which Lambert said, ““No, no.” He went on to elaborated, saying, “We bumped into each other at a club in New York a couple weeks ago and had few drinks with our friends,” Adam explained. “We’re laughing and taking pictures and all of a sudden…who knows what!”
As Seacrest noted that he was seeing everywhere “Sam Smith and Adam Lambert the new hot Hollywood couple,” Lambert laughed and said, “I know! I saw that too!” He went on to say, “And he texted me and we were laughing so hard, we were like, what the hell! I love the rumor mill!”
So that was that. Rumors were just that, rumors!
And the new single, ‘Welcome to the Show,’ his first new music since last year’s album, “The Original High.” Last year, in an interview on Good Morning America he had said of his rise to fame, “Idol” was this crazy experience, such an adventure and coming off it, it’s been an up and down side-to-side journey and typing a new groove.”
In a trip down the proverbial memory lane, in his return to American Idol, he opened the show, reprising one of the performances that made him a fan favorite throughout, his cover of Tears for Fears’ ‘Mad World.’ And later, in the program, he was back on stage to perform with the co-writer of the song, Swedish singer-songwriter Laleh, he was full of enthusiasm over the collaboration, telling Ryan Seacrest, “Laleh — what an amazing songwriter,” an excited Lambert told host Ryan Seacrest. “She is so talented and we just wrote a banger and I’m so pumped.”
