One of the biggest surprise hits of the 2011 summer TV season comes from USA. The show is called Suits and it stars Gabriel Macht, Patrick J. Adams and Gina Torres. The series has had a breakout year and has proven itself as a viable ratings juggernaut for the cable network. With such a positive response from fans, it’s no surprise that USA has renewed Suits for a second season.
In the past few years, USA has turned into a serious competitor for smart shows that are a perfect mix of comedy, drama and action. Suits allows them to tread that line, while delivering witty and entertaining content.
“With Suits, we’ve gone to a new level of storytelling and visual sophistication and to a little bit of an edgier place — Harvey is not immediately likable and the young hero has made so many bad choices in his life … For a network that has made its mark with aspirational characters and smart escapism, this is a step in a new direction,” said Jeff Wachtel, USA co-president via Deadline.
The premise of Suits centers around a brilliant young man who’s an ace in the legal field, the only problem is he lacks a law degree. That’s where Macht’s character comes in. The tagline of the show is two guys, one law degree. At first glance, we didn’t think it would work but it’s surprised us. The show’s renewal news comes one day before it wraps production on season one. We’re sure the staff, crew, and actors are ecstatic!
On another note, USA has given notice that another one of their freshman series, Necessary Roughness will likely receive a second season. They haven’t officially announced it but it looks like that’s the direction they’re going in. We hope it’s true because Necessary Roughness is one of the best shows on TV right now — period!
What do you think of USA’s decision to renew Suits? Are you a fan?
