As the days go by the news on 65-year-old British music legend Phil Collins has been not just positive, but downright inspiring. Not only is he returning to his music career, after having faced well-publicized health and physical challenges, but he’s also reunited with his former wife Orianne Cevey, whom he divorced eight years ago, again in the glare of publicity and a 46-million dollar divorce settlement.
Now once again, all the buzz is about the music artist back on stage before a live audience for the first time since 2010. As Rolling Stone reports, he performed seven songs at the Dreaming On The Beach benefit concert at Miami’s Fillmore. Orianne Cevey is the founder of the charity — which provides financial assistance young people who aspire to excel in music, art and sports — thus making it quite the reunited family affair. The couple two sons, 4-year-old Nicholas and 11-year-old Matthew, were also in attendance.
It’s his first official concert, as he did make a surprise appearance in Miami with his children’s middle school band back in May of 2014 performing his iconic 1980s hit ‘In the Air Tonight’ and ‘Land of Confusion.’ In retrospect, that was just a harbinger for what was yet to come.
As for that fairy-tale like reconciliation that’s at the crux of this comeback concert performance, Entertainment Tonight, spoke with him that night and quotes him as saying, “It’s lovely. I’m back with her,” Collins confirmed to ET. “We never really wanted to split. I mean, we did, but we stayed in touch, and we were so close because of the kids, and we kept it sensible. We didn’t go the way that a lot of couples go, and that obviously is evident because we are back together again.” As for how they were able to reconcile and be reunited, Collins told the celebrity news outlet, ”
And through it all he’s back on stage, and his setlist, according to Stereogum, was comprised of several of his classic hits, (‘Another Day in Paradise’, ‘Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)’, ‘In the Air Tonight’, ‘Easy Lover’ and ‘Take Me Home’). He also performed two covers; The Temptations’ ‘My Girl’ and Bob Dylan’s ‘Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door.’
