Monday night on ABC Family, season one of Switched at Birth came to a dramatic conclusion. Several relationships were brought to light, a long lost relative came to town and a hidden truth was revealed. For the past few weeks, the storyline has been building up to one major secret: Who is Angelo Sorrento? He’s Bay’s biological father that’s who!
Last night, Dancing with the Stars and Brothers & Sisters alum Gilles Marini made his first of what we’re hoping will be many guest appearances on the show as Mr. Sorrento. His presence brought a lot of tension between not only Bay and the Kennishes but Regina and Daphne as well.
At the beginning of the episode, Bay met and spoke with a mysterious man at her school’s art show. Assuming he was a paying patron, she tried to persuade him to buy one of her pieces. Unfortunately, he was more interested in her and how she found his lucky guitar pin, which she was wearing on her sleeve. Could it be? Yes, at that moment, Bay finally met Angelo Sorrento and he wanted to spend more time with her.
On the other end of the spectrum, Daphne was accidentally informed by Emmett that he and Bay are in a relationship. She expressed her immediate disapproval and Emmett responded with “I’m not asking your permission.” This added to the heavy tension that was already brewing between the two young women. When there’s a boy in the middle, it never ends well.
When John and Kathryn Kennish discover that Angelo went to Bay’s school and met with her they were shocked and angry. They felt that he wanted money and was taking advantage of his newfound daughter’s trust fund. It turns out that he really wants to get in on the lawsuit that the Kennishes have filed against the hospital, so he can get a piece of the settlement. When Regina caught wind of Angelo’s return she was uneasy but by the end of the episode he told her he was staying in town and wanted to start over with her and their daughter.
Near the end of the episode, Emmett felt torn between his love for Daphne (his dream girl) and Bay. After Daphne revealed her true feelings to him, he was initially upset but impulsively kissed her before signing, “I’m with Bay now.” Emmett agreed to go out of town to play a live show with Toby and Wilke and it’s there that three relationships are established.
Emmett openly acknowledged to everyone that he and Bay are together, Daphne told Bay that she has no intention of letting Emmett go, and Wilke tells Toby that he’s kind of “into Daphne.” What will the future hold for these four? We’ll have to find out next season!
