Tyler Perry opened up about his 40-pound weight loss success, and shared some details of his workouts and, importantly, exactly what keeps him motivated to continue. He also revealed how many more pounds he plans to lose.
The 46-year-old actor, director and producer continues to impress with his slimmed down physique. He has been documenting his weight loss journey for several months now, posting photos on social media that reveal his toned physique and offering words of inspiration and motivation for his numerous followers.
In an interview with Extra TV he opened up about his weight loss journey. When asked if he and his BFF Oprah Winfrey are on a new diet, he said, “She’s on Weight Watchers. I’m doing SoulCycle,” referring to the indoor cycling fitness workout that’s become increasingly popular.
He didn’t say anything further about the diet he’s following, but when asked about his routine, Perry said he was working out “a lot, maybe twice a day sometimes.” He went on to say, “I love it that much.” As for his progress, he went on to say, “I got 20 more pounds to go.”
Yes, that’s the secret. It’s the old mainstay, exercise and it’s clear he’s found something he’s got a passion for. He recently posted a picture on Instagram of himself with his SoulCycle instructor which you can see below.
But beyond the enthusiasm for working out, he also revealed his true motivation as he opened up about his one-year-old son, Aman, his first, with Gelila Bekele. He said, “I want to be around for him for a long time, so that’s why I exercise.”
Tyler Perry echoed comments he had made on his Facebook page, right before the holiday season, and said in part, “Don’t let anything keep you from being healthy and strong. I wish my mother had fought back. She turned diabetic at 40 and died at 64. Don’t let that be you!! Fight back!!”
Perry lost his mother, Willie Maxine Perry in 2009. And his words and his resolve, now years later continue to be inspiring and a reminder that weight loss isn’t just about looking good on the cover of a magazine, as he did, famously for Men’s Health, or in selfies.
