Kirstie Alley opens up about her 50-pound weight loss and talks about why she’d rather date younger men. She also reveals her celebrity girl crush. The actress and Jenny Craig celebrity spokesperson has had more than a year of dieting success and, as always, she’s making headlines with her typical candor.
Yes, another year has gone by, and the story now isn’t so much that she’s lost the weight, but she’s kept it off for more than a year. Those images of a much heavier Kirstie Alley who became the title star in such reality TV shows as ‘Fat Actress’ are far away now in the proverbial rear mirror. Instead, she’s the poster child of successful New Year’s resolutions.
Now at 64 and svelte as she was in her ‘Cheers’ days. And that’s no exaggeration as the new ‘Cheers’ reunion commercial for Jenny Craig, featuring co-stars from that iconic sitcom reveals. One feels one has stepped back in time, as she reprises her familiar role behind the familiar bar.
Alley she spoke with AJ Calloway of Extra TV (video below) about the topic that’s brought her such recognition these days, and said of her continued success in maintaining weight loss. She said, “Well, Jenny Craig worked for me because I need to be held accountable a little bit. And so when you sign up for Jenny Craig… everybody gets a personal consultant.”
Asked about what’s made the difference this time around, she said, “I think the thing that I really started observing is how much food people are served, especially in restaurants.” She went on to say, “You’re really fed enough for three people, sometimes four people” and she spoke of the choice that she made to be more conscious of portions. She said it was a matter of getting “the idea of how you want to do this and how you want to live your life.” She added, “This is how I want to live the rest of my life.”
And she obliges the celebrity outlet as they ask her about her celebrity girl crush — after all, this makes big headlines theses days, as so-and-so will say she has a crush on such and such and, bam! Suddenly two names in one headline with lots of innuendo. She said, “I wouldn’t call it a crush, but I would call it an obsession… Jennifer Lawrence. She’s the girl I want to be. When she came on the scene, I was like, ‘Why can’t I be this girl?’ I am obsessed with her… She’s the it girl.”
And yes, now twice divorced with grown up children, Kirstie Alley is in a dating mode. She tells, Wonderwall she’s got a preference for younger men. She says, “I feel that men over 50 are just sort of lackluster.”
She goes on to elaborate, and reveals it’s just a matter of, shall we say, physical attributes. She says, “It’s not that they don’t parachute out of planes…I like people in general who have big dreams and who are sort of ageless.”
She doesn’t find that in men her age, she says, “”And I don’t find a lot of men who are real creative or playful in a conversation … and sound exciting to me..Everyone just goes, ‘Well, you know, I slowed down a little bit. I retired. I just want to travel a lot.’ I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I’m gonna kill myself.’ So that isn’t for me.”
She went on to draw the contrast, and said, “If you talk to a guy who’s 25 or 26 — let’s go 28 because sometimes 25 or 26 year olds don’t know what they’re doing either — but at 28, they’re like, ‘I’m doing this!’ And they have these plans, they have energy behind it and they have life behind it. They’re excited about life.”
And Kirstie Alley herself, continuing to defy stereotypes of aging, especially for actresses in Hollywood, is starring in more than just weight loss commercials. She’ll next be seen in Will Arnett’s Netflix series ‘Flaked.’
